NYCDDC QED1037 – Reconstruction of Distribution Water Main in South Conduit Avenue

This $5.6 million NYCDDC construction project replaced aging water mains to improve water distribution and fire protection capabilities and to reduce maintenance issues within the project area. Approximately 9,500’ feet of 8” water mains and 45 new fire hydrants were installed.
During construction, Ms. Elizabeth Santamaria performed Community Outreach services to establish and mitigate potential impacts to the surrounding area. The project area included schools, businesses, residents, and community organizations, all requiring unique attention to prevent disruption of service. Ms. Santamaria attended Community Board meetings, Service Cabinet Meetings and Progress meetings and communicated upcoming project impacts and progress with the community. She created a Neighborhood Notification Network and calendar to alert residents and businesses of water access disruptions, street closures, and other potential impacts to to commmunity due to construction. She coordinated the delivery of all essential city services with Sanitation, NYPD, DEP, DOH, DPR, and other intergovernmental agencies and organizations involved in the project. She observed the site daily to ensure that noise, air pollution, walkways and other areas that would impact affected residents and businesses were within proper parameters and apraised project stakeholders to site conditions.
